THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO
D. Preparing the Disciples for His Death
1. Telling Them the Things to Come
Tell us, when will these things be? And what will be the sign awhen all these things are about to be accomplished?
Many will come in My aname, saying, I am the Christ! and will lead many astray.
1But you, take heed to yourselves. They will adeliver you to bsanhedrins, and in the synagogues you will be cbeaten, and before 2governors and dkings you will stand for My sake, for a testimony to them.
Yet the gospel must first be proclaimed to all the anations.
And when they lead you away and deliver you up, do not be aanxious beforehand about what you should 1speak, but bwhatever is given to you in that hour, speak that; for it is not you who are speaking, but the Holy cSpirit.
And brother will deliver up brother to death, and a afather his child; and children will rise up against their parents and put them to death.
And let him who is on the ahousetop not come down, nor enter in, to take anything out of his house;
And let him who is in the field not turn back to take his garment.
But woe to those who are apregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those days.
And pray that 1it may not happen in winter,
And then if anyone says to you, Behold, ahere is the Christ! Behold, there! do not believe it.
And the stars will be afalling out of heaven, and the powers in the heavens will be shaken.
And then He will send the angels, and He will agather together His chosen from the four winds, from the end of the earth to the end of heaven.
Truly I say to you that this generation shall by no means pass away until all these things happen.
It is like a man who is about to go aabroad, having left his house and given to his slaves authority, to each his work, and who commanded the doorkeeper to watch.
Lest He come suddenly and find you asleeping.
And what I say to you, I say to all: aWatch!
